Sharing Lives:
Inside an Intentional Permaculture Community
What is it like living in a small, intentional, egalitarian community? Many people dream of living on some land and growing their own food, surrounded by a loving group of friends. A few people actually make that dream a reality. What makes it work?
La’akea Community is one of the few family style groups who are equally co-owning land, with no one person as a main leader. We practice permaculture in our gardens and also in our interpersonal relationships, with careful attention to communication skills. Listen to our members talk about their lives here, and what inspires them. Get a peek behind the scenes as we work, play and live together. Interns who have lived with us for a month share their experiences, and we give you a preview of the ways we use natural building techniques, permaculture principles, and what we do for fun. Take a tour of our lush tropical rainforest land.
We would love to have you visit us as a guest, work trader, student intern or potential new member. Enjoy getting to know us and the processes we use to run a successful and happy community. Feel free to share these videos with groups of friends and anyone who is interested in us and the communities movement. Thanks!
